Why give cufflinks?

nullAs a usual practice during weddings, the wedded couple give each groomsman a token or gift to show their appreciation. There is a ringbearer gift, a best man gift, an usher gift and so on and so forth. A very popular and traditional gift are groomsmen cufflinks, small but durable items that are accessories to a formal suit.

But why cufflinks? One reason is the purpose of these cufflinks which is to give more character and sophistication to the bearer. It is a small detail in the over-all dress suit but says a lot about the man. As such, the symbolism of the cufflink is that though it is a minor detail in a greater scheme of things, it may actually make the whole work out. Just as the bride and groom are the ones in the spotlight during the wedding, the whole wedding cannot be complete unless the entourage is there to help and support them.

Another reason is that cufflinks are to men as jewelry are to women, though a lot less expensive, cufflinks are prized items that men use on special formal occasions of some degree of importance. Again, the groomsman being an important part of the wedding ceremony is implied in this example.

So it is really no wonder why as groomsmen gifts go, groomsmen cufflinks are probably the most popular and traditional token that wedded couples give to the people who have made their weddings a true affair to remember.
